How to Store Clamps: My Space-Saving Workshop Solution

Clamps are indispensable, but they can quickly occupy a great deal of space. In my workshop I store most of them on the wall. The photographs show my solution: different clamp types are arranged in groups, while the longer ones hang vertically.

1. Store different clamp types separately

A single holder rarely suits every clamp. The photographs show several storage zones for one-handed clamps, screw clamps and long pipe clamps. Grouping them this way makes it easier to see which tools are available.

2. Store long clamps vertically

My long clamps hang with their pipes or rails pointing downwards. This makes use of the wall height instead of requiring another horizontal shelf. They must be held securely and should not pull neighbouring tools with them when removed.

3. Match the holders to the tools

The shape, weight and removal path of each clamp are important. Leave enough clearance for handles and jaws. The wall, fixings and holders must support the total load. These photographs are an example of workshop organisation, not a construction drawing with verified load capacities.

4. Keep movement areas clear

Even wall-mounted storage can restrict the workspace. Long rails, projecting handles and nearby cables must not obstruct walkways or working areas. Test the arrangement while carrying a larger workpiece as well.

My preferred brand: BESSEY

BESSEY is my preferred clamp brand. I enjoy using its clamps and also buy them through Amazon.de. This is a personal preference, not a comparative product test.

Before buying, I would first determine the required clamping capacity, throat depth and clamp type. The brand alone does not establish which clamp is right for a particular job.

Sort first, then design the holder

Begin by grouping your clamps by type and length. Then check how much wall area each group requires and whether every tool can be removed comfortably. This produces storage that matches the collection you actually own.
